Archimedes Russell was born and educated in Massachusetts, and came to Syracuse, N.Y. as an architect. He worked with the architect Horatio N. White for seven years before opening his own office in 1869. From 1873 to 1881 he served as professor of architecture at Syracuse. He designed 850 structures in central New York, including McGraw Hall and Sibley Hall on the Cornell campus. From the description of Archimedes Russell papers, [ca. 1855-1920].
